I guess I should start off with where I’ve been lately… Between summer school, Urban Outfitters, and physically living in Covington, while socially being in Atlanta, things have been a bit hectic. I haven’t really had time to even think of a post idea, let alone sit down and actually write one. But the other day, I got inspired. The girl pictured above is one of my first, and longest high school friends. I met Emily my freshman year, while she was a junior. I’ve always been fond of older people, and from the moment we met we clicked instantly. Emily and I, with our other friend Presley, were liked the Three Amigos! We only truly had time to laugh and converse during lunch. Instead of sitting with friends from my grade, I would sit with them. Those were some of the best memories I have from high school. I’m talking… laughing so hard that you start crying, constant enjoyment, and building relationships that would last a lifetime! “Good things only come to an end when we let them end!” When Emily and Presley graduated, I had to rediscover a sense of comfort in school. I interacted with more people my own age, and found a group of people who I fit in with. Though they were out of school living their separate lives we still kept in touch, and to this day, we still keep in touch! The admiration I have for these two women will never go away. To make a long story short, Emily moved away to England and got married to a very nice man. I’m so happy she’s found someone who makes her happy. Will, pictured above, is extremely funny and a very passionate guy. Whenever I’m around the two of them, we always seem to be laughing (or having really deep talks haha just depends on the mood!) Recently, Em and Will traveled back to America to have a go at living down here. This recent reunion has reminded me that good things only come to an end if we let them. I haven’t seem Emily in four years, but it felt like no time had passed when I saw her again. That’s real friendship, and you should strive to have that with every person you allow into your life. Time is valuable and shouldn’t be wasted on those who don’t care for you. I’m so grateful Em and Will spent some of the short time they had here in Atlanta with me! I wish you guys the best with your trip to Texas, and thanks for being my friend. Hopefully, I’ll be able to visit soon! xx WHAT I’M WEARING Hat // Urban Outfitters (here) | Shirt // Urban Outfitters (similar) | Denim Jacket // Urban Outfitters (here) | Pants // Thrifted | Shoes // Teva’s (here) 0 Comments Lifestyle Welcome, New America! #blacklivesmatter July 11, 2016 HEY GUYS! Some of you may already know, but I recently hit the big 2-0! Though I see no difference from last week when I was 19, I think my 20’s are going to be some of the best years of my life! “What saddens me though, is that some guys like me don’t even get to make it to the age of 20 or even celebrate another year of life.” America is suppose to be the land of the free, and yet, everyone seems to be fighting for their rights. Women, Gays, Blacks, Hispanics, and the list goes on and on. It seems to me that everyone is starting to realize that unless you’re a white male, you’ll always have some battle to fight. Even white males notice this, and for those who try to put a stop to this ideology, I am grateful. America has seen some pretty messed up things in the last few years. The amount of unjustified murders that have taken place makes me uncomfortable. I’m shocked that one human being thinks it’s okay to nullify another’s right to live. As for my input on the recent murders of black men, it’s stated in the 5th Amendment that everyone has the right to Due Process. Well that right cannot be fulfilled when they’re lying dead on the street. Old America, wake up and see the repercussions of your actions. By Old America, I mean the type of men who first established this great nation. Those men didn’t believe women should have rights, that black people were in fact people, or that land could be peacefully shared between two races. These men need to wise up and realize that this isn’t just their nation anymore. (In fact, it wasn’t theres to claim in the first place.) America needs to fulfill it’s promise of being the land of the free. This anti-race thing we have going on is NOT going to solve any problems. It will only create more. Race is something that will be around for as long as time. That doesn’t mean we have to keep focusing on it. Not all white people are racist, not all black people are criminals. Not all cops are bad, and not all victims are innocent. But how do we solve this problem? It’s up to us, New America, those who truly believe in equality for all, to speak up about this injustice. Yes #alllivesmatter, but right now black lives are treated as the exception. So for the terrible times we are in right now, I support the #blacklivesmatter movement. If all lives really mattered, we wouldn’t have to keep reminding Old America that black lives matter too. New America, we are a nation filled with all walks of life. No matter what race or class you belong to, we need to respect one another and not act with such violence. We need to strive for equal representation in our justice system and government. We will never truly be free until we see diversity in our Congress. To other black men like myself, Don’t live your life with a target on your back. The more we fight against the system, the harder they strike us down. We need to infiltrate the system! The best thing to do is to improve ourselves. Drop the glorification of disruptive vices and pick up a book. Knowledge is power, and can truly change the way you see yourself. We can be successful! We, first, just have to believe it for ourselves. Don’t glorify idols who do nothing for our community. Promoting a negative view of our community should not be welcomed. We are a community of leaders, entrepreneurs, men who give a damn about the way we present ourselves. We are educated, hard working, and determined to do better than those before us. We are apart of the New America, and together we all can put a stop to the discriminations that unfortunately exist here. Here’s to being apart of the New America! xx 0 Comments Lifestyle The Power of Community! | The XFINITY Share App June 21, 2016 Post sponsored by XFINITY, but all opinions are my own. Please see below for additional disclosure. HEY GUYS! As some of you know, I’ve done a bit of vlogging during my freshman and sophomore years of college. For those of you who don’t know what vlogging is, it’s when you record your daily activities and post them online for the world to see. Now you might ask yourself why someone would do such a thing, and honestly it’s just for fun. Seeing how others live their respective lives is interesting to us. We cling to the things that are the same and study the things that are different. I believe this kind of interaction builds community. When we share our lives for everyone to see, it’s not only freeing, but a way for us to connect with others that was never thought possible 50 years ago. With the XFINITY share app, you have to power to live-stream any birthday party, graduation, proposal (hopefully you’re watching the proposal and not the one actually getting proposed to!), or even a beautiful sunset straight to the biggest TV in your home! We all know when it comes to someone graduating there are several events you can attend. My sister just graduated high school this year and had so many functions that I could’ve attended on top of graduation. I made it to most of them, but had to miss out on the graduation party because of work. If someone there was using the Share App, they would’ve been able to live-stream the party right to my TV at home! This is a revolutionary invention, and should definitely not be taken for granted. We’re in an age now where the internet is available everywhere you turn! Let’s use this growing wave of face-to-face communication without actually being face-to-face to build and grow our communities. To connect with those who were out of reach before! Having a solid sense of community can increase the morale of anyone involved tremendously. You will not find this kind of forward thinking technology with any other service provider. Will you be a part of the revolution? What events would you live-stream if you had the XFINITY Share App? xx XFINITY partnered with bloggers such as me for this program. I’m a firm believer in the saying “Everything happens for a reason!” No matter if the event is good or bad, it’s meant to happen, and there’s something to learn from it. Recently, I completely killed my car. I’m talking about damages to my motor, transmission, and radiator. This car (his name is Michael) has been with me for almost four faithful years. Now, you’re probably asking yourself, “Brandon? How could you possibly do all of that? Did you get into an accident?” To answer your question, no. I simply forgot to put oil in my car. Something so simple, yet I kept putting it off. Sadly, Michael had to pay the price for my mistake. Though this is super unfortunate, I’m still grateful that it happened. For starters, now I’ll never forget to put oil in my car again. Second, it symbolizes a new beginning. I bought Michael my junior year of high school. Here’s an actual photo of the day I got him lol! He’s helped me get from place to place (even to the photoshoot you see above), and has been my key to an independent lifestyle. Now that that key is gone, and I have to discover a new one. I’m about to start my junior year of college in the Fall, and it’s only fitting that I go out a find a new key this year. Hopefully, tomorrow is the day I find a new key and update to Michael 2.0. Everything happens for a reason, so make sure you try to just look at the bigger picture. Everything will work itself out eventually. Don’t stress. #DressYourBest This outfit has been my “go-to” outfit for a while now! It’s so easy to put it on and go! I thrifted both the overalls and the shirt, but the shoes and hat are both from Urban Outfitters. Funny story, I bought the overalls for $30 from Buffalo Exchange, and now Topman is selling the same exact pair for $90! Thrifting is the way to go guys! xx WHAT I’M WEARING Hat // Urban Outfitters (here) | Shirt // Thrifted | Overalls // Thrifted (here) | Shoes // Stan Smiths (here) 0 Comments Lifestyle, Style Have a Good Look: The Power of Self-Perception May 23, 2016 HEY GUYS! I feel like a super positive post is way overdue here on Happily Dressed! I’ve been so busy with our new YouTube channel that I haven’t had much time to invest in the blog. Well that’s changing today! There have been so many times in my life where people have tried to set a limit on the goals I could achieve. When this happens, you only have one option… to prove them wrong! Listen to me, NEVER let someone tell you what you can or can’t accomplish. You define the rules, and you control the decisions made. Self-perception is a powerful tool. It’s time to embrace it and discover the endless possibilities you have to offer yourself. This is what I want you to do… Take a good look in the mirror. Study yourself. See the things you like and the things you don’t like. Accept them all as characteristics that make you different. Once you embrace the fact that no one on this earth will ever be YOU, your options of what you can truly attain are endless. No one out there is a better *insert name here* than you! There are plenty of things that I don’t like about myself, but I don’t let them hinder me from doing what I love. Most of the time, when I’m trying to speak, I have a hard time getting my words out straight. Things get jumbled in my head and come out as incoherent sentences. Though extremely annoying, this doesn’t stop me from trying to verbally influence people in a positive way. That’s what self-perception is all about. Knowing your abilities, understanding your weaknesses, but still pushing through. To be limitless, you first have to believe you can be. #DressYourBest This outfit was very fun to wear. I found these cropped trousers at a thrift and immediately had to put them on the blog. Cropped, wide-leg trousers are definitely in right now so finding these made me very happy. Anyone who knows me will agree I love dressing like an old man. I don’t know what it is, but I feel like I get an extra dose of wisdom when I dress like that. :p I will say, unfortunately, a good bit of the items I have on were thrifted, but I’ve linked to some that are as similar as possible! xx WHAT I’M WEARING Jacket // Thrifted (similar) | Shirt // Urban Outfitters (here) | Cropped Trousers // Thrifted (similar) | Shoes // Thrifted (similar) 0 Comments Older Posts GET TO KNOW ME!
